In 2001, Professor Robert Kavesh received the Abraham L. Gitlow Award at NYU Stern.

Robert Kavesh (BS '49), Marcus Nadler Professor of Finance and Economics Emeritus, affectionately known as "Dr. Bob," has been teaching at NYU Stern for the past 50 years. An alumnus of the undergraduate program at Stern and a generous donor, Professor Kavesh has long been a leader at the School. Built on the foundation that he helped create, Stern's Economics department has become one of the top programs in the country.

Expert, mentor, and Renaissance man, Professor Kavesh has touched countless lives through his teaching and scholarship. His dynamic lectures have inspired generations of students with a passion for economics and financial markets.

Professor Kavesh's scholarship on inflation and deflation, interest rates, and the stock market continues to be influential, and he is widely known for his work as a forecaster and analyst of economic and financial developments.

Professor Kavesh's accomplishments in the world beyond NYU Stern have always informed his teaching. He has served on numerous boards, has testified before Congress on economic issues and has served on the Economic Advisory Board of the U.S. Department of Commerce.

In a different realm, Professor Kavesh also writes and publishes his poetry, another expression of the creativity that motivates his teaching.
