Application for "My Stern Degree" Video


The NYU Stern Undergraduate College announces "My Stern degree," a new film project to be created by the students, for the students. One Stern student will be selected to put their creative and business skills to the test while writing, budgeting, and managing a low budget video production in conjunction w/film students from Tisch over the spring term.

The purpose of the video is to showcase the diverse career opportunities students have after graduation and the choices recent graduates made while in school to help them find their paths.

The Stern student producer will have the opportunity to:

1.  Gain hands-on creative experience in producing a low budget video
2.  Learn to budget, schedule and manage a production.
3.  Network with recent stern alumni and rising filmmakers from Tisch.
4.  See their work featured on the web

Rules for the Video:

  • Interested students must submit a 1-2 page treatment for their video (see details below).
  • Finalists will be asked to give a 3 minute pitch for their project to Stern Administrators
  • A small budget will be provided to the winner to be used for all production and editing costs.
  • Student producer will receive a list of recent alumni from a variety of industries to choose from.
  • Film must be no longer than 4 minutes and appropriate for all ages, in a format to be specified by Stern Administrators
  • Most importantly the video should generate excitement about Stern among prospective and current students.

    What to consider when developing your treatment

  • Content: The video should be informative. Diversity is very important and students are encouraged to showcase alumni of various backgrounds in a wide range of industries. The final product must include profiles of at least 5 alumni.
  • Style: Students will have flexibility in terms of visual and creative style and are encouraged to collaborate with film students to find their vision for this product.
  • Length: The final product must not exceed 4 minutes.
  • Audience: This video may be seen by both prospective and current students, as well as recruiters and other alumni.
  • Budget: Student will receive a small budget to work with for all production and editing costs
