Tuition & Aid
Financial Aid
Financial aid is applied toward the difference between a student’s educational costs and available financial resources to contribute toward these expenses. New York University students are eligible to receive aid on the basis of academic record and financial need. The award may consist of scholarships, grants, loans, and/or academic year employment.

A standard semester's tuition payment at Stern allows our students to register for courses totaling anywhere from 12-18 credit points during that semester.
- When students register for courses totaling more than 18 credit points, additional tuition fees are charged on a "per point" basis.
- When students register for courses totaling less than 12 credit points, they typically pay for those courses on a "per point" rather than standard tuition basis.
It is important to understand that when students register for courses totaling less than 12 credit points or withdraw from courses mid-semester resulting in completing less than 12 credit points in a given semester, these choices can jeopardize degree progress and may result in the student being placed on academic probation. Sometimes, these choices may also mean that they student has to take more than 18 credit points worth of courses during a subsequent semester in order to graduate on time. When this happens, additional tuition fees are charged.
We encourage all students considering these options to meet with an academic adviser to discuss how these decisions may impact curricular planning and financial obligations. At that time, the adviser will also discuss residency and GPA requirements that impact eligibility.
As always, we recommend that you visit the Office of the Bursar and/or Financial Aid for individualized consultations as to how adjusting your course load may impact your tuition and financial aid packages. Specifically, you can refer to the University Tutition Refund Plan. International students should also consult with the Office for International Students & Scholars to ensure there are no immigration implications as a result of changes to your credit load.
