Do scholarships last one or two years?

Most merit-based scholarships awarded by the school to incoming full-time students apply to the first year only. The Deans Scholarship and the Consortium Fellowship are the only merit-based awards that are renewable for the second year, assuming the student has maintained good academic standing and still meets the criteria for the scholarship.

Please note that merit-based donor awards are also available for continuing students. There is no application process - full-time second year students and part-time students who have completed 30 credits toward their degree are automatically considered for these awards.

How will my scholarship affect my loans?

Scholarships are taken into consideration when calculating the student's financial need, which determines eligibility for subsidized Stafford loansUnsubsidized loans are not need-based, and therefore are unaffected by scholarship awards. Scholarships are also taken into account when determining the amount of private loan money a student is allowed to borrow, i.e. private loan amount = cost of attendance - other aid, such as Stafford loans and scholarships.

Are there scholarships specifically for international students? Are there external scholarships for non-citizens?

Students who miss this priority deadline are considered based on the availability of funds. There are also several external scholarships available. Please visit the Additional Resources for International students section for more information.
