Biography
Joe Magee joined New York University’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service as an Assistant Professor of Management, and he became connected to the NYU Stern School of Business as Affiliated Assistant Professor of Management and Organizations in September 2004. He teaches Managing Public Service Organizations at the Wagner School.
Professor Magee’s primary research interests include understanding how power differences transform the way people think, feel, and behave, and how people figure out who has power over whom. He is also interested in the social role of emotion in group settings, as well as whether or not people are forgiving of unethical behavior when it is undertaken to maintain the status quo.
In the late 1990s, Professor Magee worked as a senior technology consultant for Braun Consulting in Chicago. He built databases and executive reporting systems for Fortune 500 companies in the insurance, manufacturing, and pharmaceutical industries.
Professor Magee earned his A.B. in Psychology from the University of Michigan in 1996, and his Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business in 2004.
