Vijay Singal will join New York University Stern School of Business in 2012 as a Visiting Professor of Finance. He will teach a course entitled “International Financial Management.” Professor Singal is also the J. Gray Ferguson Chair Professor of Finance at the Pamplin College of Business, Virginia Tech.
Professor Singal’s teaching interests are investments and international finance. His research interests include mergers, corporate governance, pricing and market power, executive compensation, index changes, short selling, currency risk management and market efficiency.
Professor Singal’s work has been published in top journals such as the American Economic Review, Journal of Business, Journal of Finance and the Journal of Financial Economics, as well as in practitioner journals such as the Journal of Applied Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Portfolio Management, Financial Analysts Journal and Journal of Investment Management. Professor Singal’s research has also been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, The New York Times, Investor’s Business Daily, SmartMoney, Fortune and Money. In addition, he is the author of Beyond the Random Walk: A Guide to Market Anomalies and Low Risk Strategies (Oxford University Press, 2004, 2006).
Professor Singal was the department head of finance at Virginia Tech from 2003 to 2009. He currently serves on the board of Sapient Corporation and is a consultant for a New York-based investment firm. Prior to entering academia, Professor Singal was a joint director of finance at the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation in India, where he had worked for ten years.
Professor Singal received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, an M.B.A. in Finance from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, and a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Michigan.
