Biography

Stanley J. Kon joined New York University Stern School of Business as a Visiting Professor of Finance in September 2009. He teaches courses in fixed income and equity portfolio management.

Professor Kon has written extensively in the areas of investment management, performance measurement, asset pricing, statistical models of stock returns and mortgage-backed securities. He has published articles in such journals as the Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Finance, Journal of Business, Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of Fixed Income and Financial Analysts Journal. Since 2001, Professor Kon has been the editor of the Journal of Fixed Income.

Professor Kon served on several bank and holding company boards (from 1985 to 2007) and as a consultant to government, business and financial institutions, including the US Department of Labor, Resolution Trust Corporation, US Securities and Exchange Commission, Catalyst Group, The Commodity Exchange and Chase Econometric Associates.

Since 1997 Professor Kon has been a principal, executive vice-president, director of research and co-director of the Investment Management Group at Smith Breeden Associates, Inc., an institutional investment management company. He was a Professor of Finance at the University of Michigan (from 1982-1997), where he served as chairman of the Finance Department, director of the J. Ira Harris Center for the Study of Corporate Finance and a member of the advisory board for the Mitsui Life Financial Research Center. Prior to 1982, Professor Kon served on the faculties of New York University, the University of Chicago and the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

Professor Kon received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Lowell Technological Institute, his M.B.A. in Finance and Economics from St. John's University and his Ph.D. in Finance from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
