Biography

Roger L. M. Dunbar is a professor of management and organizations at NYU Stern. Professor Dunbar teaches courses in managing organizations, management and organizational analysis, organization theory and research methods.

Professor Dunbar has been at Stern for more than 30 years. He is interested in how managers support organizational stability and also facilitate change. He is particularly interested in sensemaking processes in organizations and how framing processes constrain meaning and the use of narrative enables learning and adaptation.

Before joining NYU Stern, Professor Dunbar was a research fellow at the International Institute of Management, a part of the Science Center of Berlin in Germany. He has also been a visiting professor at Victoria University of Wellington and the University of Auckland, both in New Zealand, and at the Free University of Berlin, Germany. He is currently a Senior Editor for Organization Studies and a member of the editorial boards of Strategic Management Journal and Academy of Management Learning & Education.

Professor Dunbar received his Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Commerce from the University of Otago, New Zealand. He received his Doctor in Philosophy from Cornell University with a concentration in organization theory.
