Howard E. Geltzer joined New York Univeristy Stern School of Business in 2008 as an Adjunct Professor of Marketing Communication. He teaches the undergraduate course entitled, "Organizational Communication and Its Social Context." In addition, he teaches, "Using Public Relations as a Marketing Tool," a graduate Public Relations course at NYU's School of Continuing and Professional Studies.
During his more than 25-year career in public relations, Professor Geltzer created numerous award-winning programs and product launches, including: Sony Walkman, Sony CD players, Motorola Pagewriter, Black & Decker Housewares, (Morton) Airbags and Toshiba Digital Copiers. In addition, he has planned and executed crisis communications programs for leading companies.
He was co-founder (1979) and Chairman of Geltzer & Company Inc, a New York-based top 50 public relations agency. When the firm was acquired by Publicis, Inc., in 2000, he was named Executive Vice President/Managing Director. He is also a founding member of the Consumer Electronics Association Hall of Fame Selection Committee and a counselor for the SCORE unit of the Small Business Administration, providing support for individuals who wish to start and build businesses. Additionally, Professor Geltzer has won numerous business and humanitarian awards.
Professor Geltzer earned both Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the Medill School of Journalism of Northwestern University, which he currently serves as a member of the Board of Advisors. In 2008, Geltzer received the Alumni Service Award presented by the Northwestern Alumni Association.
After graduating from college and a stint in the U.S. Army, he began his career in marketing communications at General Electric. This was followed by assignments at Litton Industries, McGraw-Hill and the launch of the consumer magazine, Family Health.
