Biography

Diana Mayer joined New York University Stern School of Business as an Adjunct Professor of Management and Organizations in September 2007.

Professor Mayer's course, "Authentic Leadership Development (ALD)," was developed at Harvard Business School by Professor Bill George with whom she has collaborated since 2005. For the ALD text book, True North: Discover Your Authentic Leadership, Professor Mayer interviewed leaders across the United States to identify values, motivations, relationships, practices and disciplines that enhance leadership effectiveness in organizations. She continues her research interests in how individuals prosper in their lifelong journey of authentic leadership development.

Professor Mayer now serves as a strategic advisor and Board of Directors consultant, primarily in financial services.

Prior to joining NYU Stern, Professor Mayer worked at Citigroup and Citicorp, most recently in private equity investments from 2001 to 2005, and in real estate, insurance, corporate and merchant banking, and consumer financial services from 1971 to 1981.

Prior to rejoining Citigroup in 2001, Professor Mayer was a senior vice president and co-head of workplace financial services at American Express Company, strategy consultant in risk management and financial markets for New York clients, executive vice president and head of risk management at CoreStates Financial Corp (since merged with Wachovia/Wells Fargo), vice president in fixed income at Goldman Sachs & Co., where she contributed to the development of its asset securitization business, and senior vice president of treasury and risk management at Marine Midland Banks Inc. (since merged with HSBC Holdings plc). Long active in securities markets, she was registered as an NASD securities representative and as an N.A.S.D. securities principal from 1984 through 1997.

Professor Mayer was a board director of Transatlantic Holdings, Inc., an international reinsurance company listed on the N.Y.S.E. in which American International Group, Inc., held 59 percent. She also served as alumni president and trustee of Phillips Andover Academy and as a board director of the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Harvard Business School Alumni Association, Harvard Business School Club of New York and diversified private investment advisory boards.

Professor Mayer earned her B.A. from Wellesley College and her M.B.A. in Finance and Business Policy from Harvard Business School. Her M.B.A. honors thesis was awarded a mark of distinction, and she received her B.A. with high honors as a Wellesley College Scholar.
