NYU Commencement

Wednesday, May 14

On Wednesday, May 14th, the NYU community joined together to celebrate the achievements of the class of 2008 at historic Yankee Stadium.

The ceremony included a major address, a student valedictory, the awarding of honorary degrees to a number of distinguished individuals, and the conferring of degrees and certificates. The University continued its tradition of officially announcing the names of the honorary degree recipients shortly before Commencement. Because some 6,000 students attended, it was not possible to recognize each individual by name. Instead, the Deans introduced each class as a whole, and a representative selected in advance received a symbolic diploma for each degree category.
