Walter Simson is the Founder and Principal of Ventor LLC, a consulting company helping middle market companies in profit improvement, capital restructuring and turnarounds.

Simson became interested in distressed assets while a banker at Chase Manhattan, where he helped manage the restructuring of the debt of the Republic of Venezuela — a 600-bank, $32 billion undertaking. Shortly after that, he joined his family’s troubled printing business in New York and became interested in returning to school.

Simson enrolled in NYU Stern's Executive MBA Program, in part, so that he could study with Professor Edward I. Altman. Simson graduated with his MBA in 1987.

In 1989, he ventured out and began working at his first turnaround, as interim CEO of a failed LBO in the footwear industry.

He has been a consultant and interim executive in over 25 engagements on behalf of debtors, banks, and private equity investors. Simson, throughout his career, has had the opportunity to serve a variety of industries, from steel production to to stem cell research.

In addition to receiving his MBA, Simson received a BA in comparative literature from Columbia University. He is married to Valerie Jones Simson, MBA '89, whom he met at Stern. They have three children.
