We know you may have some questions about the Alumni Ball. Please find below questions that we often hear from alumni. For additional information, please contact Alumni Relations & Development at (212) 998-4040 or alumni@stern.nyu.edu.
I’m not sure if any of my friends or former classmates are going to the Ball, what if I don’t know anyone?
“What better company than Stern alumni? Whether you go with friends or don't know a soul, the Annual Stern Alumni Ball offers a fabulous experience with great food, excellent choice of wines and an amazing venue. There's nothing quite like being in New York City with the best and brightest in the world to make new friends and enjoy a lovely evening.”

This event is aimed at a younger crowd, what’s in it for me?
The Alumni Ball is an annual tradition bringing together alumni of all ages, degrees, and backgrounds. Each year, we see a mix of older and younger graduates and specifically design the event with that in mind. There will be both quiet areas available for conversation and light music in addition to a space with dancing and DJ entertainment.
What if I don’t have a date?
“The Alumni Ball is my favorite event of the holiday season and I would never let not having a date keep me from going anywhere. I have gone to the Ball stag in the past and have had a fabulous time every year. There are so many old friends to see, so many new faces to meet and so much dining and dancing – you just simply can’t have a bad time. Last year, I went with one of my closest friends from Stern whose husband was not able to attend. Think outside the box – take your best friend as your date or arrange a group of former classmates to go with if you really don’t want to come alone. But whatever you do – don’t let not having a date keep you from this event!”

What if I don't have a tux?
This year, we recommend cocktail attire for the Alumni Ball. The majority of men and women will dress in dark suits and dresses. Do not worry if you don’t have a tux as you will fit right in with cocktail attire.
What is included in ticket price?
“I think the Alumni Ball is one of the best values in Manhattan! I enjoyed dinner at the venue, an open bar all night, and the DJ for dancing. If you were to go out in Manhattan on any given Saturday night, you could easily spend double the ticket price of the Alumni Ball, and not have half as good a time. On top of that, the School subsidizes the ticket price for us, so even if you were invited to a similar function with another group, you would be paying almost triple the amount to cover the actual cost of attending.”

I don’t live in the tristate area. Is this event worth a trip to the City?
“My career has taken me to Ohio, but I use the Alumni Ball as my excuse to celebrate (and splurge) in New York City. I make a weekend of it, shopping in Soho, visiting with friends and colleagues, seeing the tree and ice skaters at Rockefeller Plaza, the light show at Saks Fifth Avenue, and of course, the Nutcracker. The Alumni Ball weekend has become a staple in my holiday season."
