  • October 15, 2008 - Market Pulse Series: Financial Crisis and the Government Rescue Plan - What Does the Future Hold?
    Presented by the NYU Stern Alumni Council Finance Committee
    As the Dow hits records lows, consumer confidence continues to wane and the Fed crafts plans to stave off a Depression-like era, Dean Thomas Cooley moderated a discussion with industry, media and academic thought-leaders to analyze, and offer solutions for, the current financial crisis. The event was part of NYU Stern's "Market Pulse" series, introduced in fall 2007 by Dean Cooley to tackle pressing global issues affecting business and society.

    The panel included Dennis Berman, Wall Street Journal deputy bureau chief for Money and Investing; Mark Patterson (MBA '86), chairman and co-founder of MatlinPatterson Global Advisors LLC; Nouriel Roubini, Stern professor of economics and international business; and Lawrence White, deputy chair of Stern's economics department and former member of the Federal Loan Home Bank Board.

  • November 5 ,2007 – Panel Discussion on the Credit Crunch and Subprime Crisis
    Co-presented by the NYU Stern Alumni Council Finance Committee and the NYU Stern Salomon Center for Research in Financial Institutions and Markets
    More than 550 NYU Stern alumni, students and industry leaders gathered to hear from expert researchers and practitioners on the topic, including the role of the Federal Reserve, the impact of subprime defaults on the real economy, financial market volatility and the credit crunch.

    This event brought back 35 alumni and guests for a presentation on "Your Power Years: A Preview of Retirement Comprehensive Financial Planning" by The Slater-Trainor Group at Smith Barney and was followed by an Author Lecture with David Corbett, MBA 1965, and author of "Portfolio Life: The New Path to Work, Purpose, and Passion After 50."

    Hosted by the Alumnae Network Committee and the Career Center for Working Professionals (CCWP)
    Over 150 alumnae, students and guests gathered for an author lecture with Barbara Stanny, journalist, motivational speaker and financial educator.  In her books, Ms Stanny identifies the seven key strategies of female highearners: A Profit Motive, Audacity, Resilience, Encouragement, Self-Awareness, Non-attachment, and Financial Know-How.

  • May 22, 2006 - "Leadership in Your Midst: Tapping the Hidden Strengths of Minority Executives"
    Hosted by the Black and Hispanic Alumni Engagement Committee
    Close to 50 NYU Stern alumni and guests gathered to hear this discussion by indutry experts on a research article which was recently published in the Harvard Business Review.  The article highlighted new research which underscores that the lives of minority professionals are rich with experience that goes unleveraged by their employers.

    Hosted by the Alumnae Network Committee and the Career Center for Working Professionals
    This event brought together nearly 125 alumnae, students and guests for a presentation of research done under the advisement of the Wharton Center for Leadership and Change and with the support of the Forté Foundation.  The study, "Back in the Game - Returning to Business After A Hiatus: Experience and Recommendations for Women, Employers and Universities,"discusses the topic of women transitioning in and out of the workplace to raise children, care for elderly parents and/or other personal reasons.

    Over 150 NYU alumni gathered at Stern during Alumni Reunion Weekend to attend this panel discussion, which was hosted by the EMT Committee of the NYU Stern Alumni Council.  NYU Stern worked in conjunction with the NYU School of Law and the NYU Tisch School of the Arts to secure speakers from a variety of sectors of the entertainment industry.

  • November 10, 2004 - Connections Mentoring Event “Networking For Life”
    The Office of Undergraduate Advising in conjunction with the Office of Alumni Affairs was pleased to invite alumni volunteers and students to in the Undergraduate Connections Mentor Program to a Connections Mentor/Mentee event. Wendy Alfus-Rothman, an organizational psychologist and successful entrepreneur, led the presentation that addressed practical ways to build connections – techniques that were not overly cumbersome or time consuming, yet totally capable of building bridges to professional options.

  • "The Direction of Equity Research 2010" Panel Discussion - October 28, 2003
    In an effort to create industry specific events for Alumni, the Office of Alumni Affairs hosted a panel discussion on "The Direction of Equity Research 2010: Long-Term Thoughts as to Where the Industry Will Be." Nearly 250 alumni gathered in Schimmel Auditorium on October 28 to attend this panel discussion and networking reception following the event.
