Merrill Lynch Endows New Minority Scholarship Program
at Stern
NYU Stern's Office of Development and Merrill Lynch are pleased to announce the
establishment of a new scholarship program at Stern, named the Merrill Lynch Minority Scholarship Program, which
will commence in Fall 2002. This merit-based scholarship is designed to encourage under-represented minority students
to attend Stern's MBA program.
The Merrill Lynch Minority Scholarship will be awarded to one full-time student per year and will provide full
tuition and fees for both academic years. The scholarship program also includes an internship opportunity in the
investment banking, sales and trading, or capital markets areas of Merrill Lynch in the summer between the student's
first and second years of study.
Maria Ryan has been named the first Merrill Lynch Minority Scholar. Ms. Ryan is joining NYU Stern after working
for Thomson Financial in their London and San Francisco offices. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Japanese and political
science from Bucknell University.
Also of note, K. Brian Keegan, MBA '85 and Managing Director of Ratings Advisory Services in Global Markets and
Investment Banking Department at Merrill Lynch, was recently appointed Stern's primary relationship manager. Mr.
Keegan has played a leading role in furthering the partnership between Stern and Merrill Lynch. He also played
a leading role in this year's Pre-Term orientation program in August 2002.
Merrill Lynch substantially increased its Corporate Partner support in 2001 and renewed its support for this year.
These funds were earmarked for a variety of student-related activities, including: the Association of Hispanic
and Black Business Students; the Financial Engineering Association; the Graduate Finance Association; the Stern
Pre-View Weekend; the Sales, Trading and Derivatives Club; the Stern Student Corporation; and Stern Women in Business.
NYU Stern deeply appreciates the positive and direct impact that Merrill Lynch has here at Stern and looks forward
to the continued growth of this partnership.
