A Message from Ashok Sani,
Chair of the Alumni Advisory Council
Dear Fellow Alumnus/a,
This fall promises to be a dynamic and exciting time at Stern. As the Alumni Advisory Council moves into its second
year of operation, we plan to build upon the successful programs and events launched in the past year and to implement
new and engaging initiatives for the future.
This issue of Stern@lumni contains the latest news from Stern and the most up-to-date
information about the exciting program planned for fall. With regional
events to introduce Dean Thomas F. Cooley and University President John
Sexton, industry panels on current business issues / trends and networking
receptions, you will find many exciting opportunities to connect with
fellow alumni and forge new ties with the School.
We would like to extend a special invitation to join fellow alumni at the Global Alumni Conference to be held in
Florence, Italy, on October 25 - 27. This special event will reunite Stern alumni from around the world and will
feature panels exploring the historical beginnings of modern finance, culture and patronage; the business of art
and opera; and the future of the global economy. A special gala dinner at the Pitti Palace will feature remarks
by retired Chief Executive Officer of AOL Time Warner Gerald Levin. For additional information, visit the Firenze 2002 conference website.
We also encourage you to save the date for the Second Annual Stern Alumni Ball, which will be held on Saturday,
December 7, 2002. This year's event will be held in the downtown area at the Smithsonian National Museum of the
American Indian (NMAI), located in the historic Alexander Hamilton U.S. Customs House near Battery Park. Be sure
to look for your invitation in the mail.
Additionally, the Alumni Council has established a series of task forces to address various areas of interest of
the alumni community. Two of these include providing you with the opportunity to propose events and ask for support
from the School and to serve on alumni committees to oversee networking and social events.
Check the Alumni Affairs website to read about these initiatives, to keep up-to-date on benefits and services, like SWAP
- the online directory and CareerTools - the online career resource service, and to check the online calendar of
events.
The Council looks forward to working with you during the coming academic year as we continue our mission to reach
a new level of excellence. As always, your feedback is important to us. Please feel free to contact the Alumni
Council at alumni-council@stern.nyu.edu.
Regards,
Ashok Sani, BS 1974
