SNPA: New Stern MBA Club Focuses
on Nonprofit Opportunities

The Stern Nonprofit Association (SNPA) is a newly-formed NYU Stern MBA student organization, focused on opportunities in the public/nonprofit sector for MBAs. Nearly 100 alumni, students and guests attended the April 11 kickoff event, which featured a panel discussion and networking reception.

The panel, entitled "An Overview of the Nonprofit Sector," featured four distinguished panelists including: Michael Feller, President of the JPMorgan Chase Foundation; Deidre Flynn, Director of Finance at NY Cares; James Abruzzo, Executive Recruiter at DHR International; and Barbara Römer, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the New Globe Theater. Mamta Malik, MBA '01 and Director of MBA Program Initiatives at NYU Stern, moderated the discussion. A networking reception followed the discussion. SNPA will continue to present events like the April panel to make students and alumni aware that these sectors offer varied, challenging and rewarding career paths.

The goal of the event and one of SNPA's missions is to provide a networking forum for alumni interested in the roles of business leaders in public and nonprofit organizations. The club has already taken on several initiatives. The club is working on the preliminary stages of a project with the Office of Development that would create an endowment to provide loan forgiveness to graduates entering the nonprofit sector. In addition, the SNPA is developing a program to facilitate alumni and student involvement on boards of directors. The program will assist in connecting nonprofit boards needing new board members with students and alumni interested in serving on them. For the SNPA members, the program offers training and experience in management, finance and marketing.

The SNPA is looking to expand its network. If you are an alumnus/a with an interest in this sector and would like to be added to the mailing list to receive information about upcoming opportunities, please contact Laura Kuperman, MBA '02, at lkuperman@ceoworks.org.

Thursday, June 19: Save the date for the next SNPA networking event, details to be announced.
