MEA Welcomes Miramax COO Rick
Sands, Chief Operating Officer of Miramax Films, was the special guest
speaker at an April 8 event hosted by the Media and Entertainment Association
(MEA), an MBA student organization, and the Stern Alumni in Entertainment,
Media and Technology (EMT) Committee. Speaking to an audience of nearly 150 guests that included Stern alumni, MBA students and faculty members, Mr. Sands commented on a variety of industry issues, from foreign presales to theatrical distribution to TV and DVD. He also commented on Miramax's recent success at the Academy Awards and the elements involved in creating successful films. As Miramax COO, Mr. Sands is responsible for all business, operational and financial aspects of the company, including day to day responsibility for marketing, publicity and distribution throughout all media, including theatrical, Home Video and television. In addition, he maintains and develops talent relationships, as well as co-productions and acquisitions. Martin Herbst, MBA
