Career Resource Seminar
Series Continues

The Office of Alumni Affairs continued its Career Resource Seminar Series this spring. Through a partnership with ExecuPlanet, career professionals from Lee Hecht Harrison, a leading international outplacement firm, provided their expertise on a variety of topics, including developing a personal marketing plan, networking, interviewing skills and more. Each workshop or panel is followed by a question and answer period and a reception, during which alumni have an opportunity to practice their networking skills. Color-coded nametags help attendees identify fellow graduates in the same industry to facilitate making connections. The Office of Alumni Affairs looks forward to continuing the Series in the fall.

Job Search Myths
Richard Ramsey, Managing Director of Lee Hecht Harrison's three New York City offices, was a guest presenter on April 24. He explained that some New Yorkers get discouraged in their search for employment by holding onto certain myths about the local job market. He then explored these myths in detail and provided tips on overcoming them. A specialist in entrepreneurial clients, Mr. Ramsey's background includes a variety of business experiences ranging from working as a commercial lender to becoming a partner in the St. Louis-based Bankers Training and Consulting Company.

Leadership Development and Assimilation Coaching

On May 22, Alan J. Pickman, Ph.D., Senior Vice President of Lee Hecht Harrison, explored ways to devise a winning strategy and action plan to facilitate your successful assimilation into your new job and organization. Dr. Pickman specializes in executive coaching and career transition consulting, especially with senior executives. During the past 15 years, he has coached executives to enhance their leadership skills, solve strategic business problems and sustain top performance. He also is certified in a number of assessment instruments including Leadership Effectiveness Analysis (LEA), Personal Directions and Strategic Leadership Practices.

Save the Date: June 26
A discussion on "Career Transitions" will conclude the spring series. Bernadette Kenny, Executive Vice President and Chief Global Sales and Marketing Officer at Lee Hecht Harrison, will examine issues to consider in a career change or transition. She will address areas including determining if a career transition is on your horizon, examining your career options and reinventing yourself and starting a business. Ms. Kenny is well known as a senior executive consultant and has consulted with Fortune 500 companies on all aspects of career transition and development.
