MBA Admissions Hosts
Successful Pre-View

On April 13-14, students admitted to the full-time MBA Class of 2005 received a warm welcome from the Stern community at the third annual Pre-View event, hosted by MBA Admissions. The event drew 165 prospective students, which represented the largest Pre-View turnout since it was launched in 2001. Some admitted students traveled from as far away as Hawaii, Finland and Brazil to participate.

The two-day program provided admitted students with an inside look at the Stern experience, including student and alumni panels and an exciting reception at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Deputy Dean Russell Winer, Assistant Dean of MBA Admissions Julia Min and Heidi Fischer, MBA '04 and newly elected Executive Vice President of SCorp, kicked off Pre-View by welcoming the attendees. The first activity was a panel discussion designed to give a student perspective on life at Stern. Panelists included MBA2s, Neil Snoep and Javier Rojo, and several members of the Class of 2004, including Timothy Baer, Nivedita Chakravorty, Marc DeBevoise and Dina Greenberg.

The highlight of Pre-View was a reception on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) attended by over 250 prospective students, current students, administrators and alumni. MBA Admissions is especially grateful to Richard Grasso, NYSE Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and Member of the NYU Stern Board of Overseers, for graciously sponsoring and hosting this event. Murray Teitelbaum, Director of Educational Services at the NYSE, gave welcoming remarks, and Richard Freedman, Vice Dean of MBA Programs, spoke about Stern's connections to Wall Street and to the New York City community.

The second day of Pre-View included classes taught by faculty including George Daly, Dan Gode, Anat Lechner, William Silber and Roy Smith. Mary Farrell, MBA '76, Managing Director and Senior Investment Strategist at UBS PaineWebber and Member of the NYU Stern Board of Overseers, was the keynote speaker at the luncheon. Several alumni from corporate sponsor American Express Company also attended the lunch. Gary Fraser, MBA '92 and Assistant Dean of Career Development, gave a presentation on career opportunities. In addition, there was an alumni panel on the value of the Stern MBA featuring Stacy Graham, MBA '01; Amit Gupta, MBA '99; Victor Sack, MBA '98; Lisa Schneider, MBA '02; and Rob Steffens, MBA '01.

"It is always a privilege to be back at Stern to share my experiences with future Stern students and feel the excitement that every new class brings to the School," said Mr. Gupta, Senior Associate at Booz Allen Hamilton. "Stern continues to provide opportunities for its alumni to stay connected as the School develops future leaders."

Halina Karachuk, newly appointed Associate Dean of MBA Programs, presented concluding remarks. The fourth annual International Passport Day, held in Gould Plaza, closed Pre-View. As part of Passport Day, international students host tables that showcase native food, arts, crafts and music from their home countries.

This year's Pre-View was a resounding success, due to the efforts of MBA Admissions and the active involvement of students, faculty and alumni. Almost 80 percent of attendees said they were more likely to attend Stern after the event. MBA Admissions also is particularly grateful to its corporate sponsors that made the event possible, including American Express Company, the New York Stock Exchange and Goldman, Sachs & Co.
