London 2003:
NYU Stern Global Alumni Conference

Dean Thomas F. Cooley and the Office of Alumni Affairs will host London 2003: NYU Stern Global Alumni Conference on September 13, 2003. This international event will feature a panel of distinguished economists exploring the topic of "From Empire to Globalization." The panel, to be held at The British Museum, will be followed by an evening reception at NYU in London. This global alumni event will take place in conjunction with the first TRIUM Executive MBA graduation ceremony, which will take place earlier in the day.

The panel discussion on the theme of "From Empire to Globalization" will open the conference. Moderated by Dean Cooley, the program will feature distinguished speakers including William Easterly, Professor of Economics at New York University; Niall Ferguson, John E. Herzog Family Chair in Financial History and Professor of Economics at NYU Stern; John Gray, School Professor of European Thought at the London School of Economics; and John Micklethwait, U.S. Editor of The Economist.

As part of the event, guests will have the opportunity to take tours of The British Museum during the afternoon. Founded in 1753, the Museum's international standing and its role in the display of the world's and nation's heritage make it one of the most visited public buildings in London. The Museum houses a collection of art and antiquities from ancient and living cultures. Housed in one of Britain's architectural landmarks, the collection is considered one of the finest in existence, spanning two million years of history.

The program will close with an evening reception at NYU in London, located in Bedford Square. NYU in London is a teaching facility, conference center, and host for a large number of special events and programs.

Earlier in the day, the TRIUM Executive MBA program will hold graduation ceremonies for its first class. The TRIUM Class of 2003 consists of 28 executives representing 11 nationalities and 10 countries of residence. It also represents the first class of graduates from the historic partnership between NYU Stern, the London School of Economics (LSE) and HEC School of Management in Paris. The program is considered the first truly global EMBA program for senior business executives. Graduation ceremonies will take place in the Great Hall at the Lincoln's Inn in London, England. The deans from each university will attend the ceremonies: Dean Thomas F. Cooley (NYU Stern), Anthony Giddons (LSE) and Bernard Ramanatsoa (HEC). In addition, the respective Academic Directors will attend, including Paul Brown, Andrew Walter and Georges Blanc.
