Dean Choi Steps Down as
Dean of the Undergraduate College

On May 6, Dean Thomas F. Cooley and NYU President John Sexton announced that Frederick D.S. Choi will step down from his position of Vice Dean and Dean of the Undergraduate College after eight dedicated years of service.

Under Dean Choi's extraordinary leadership, the Undergraduate College has consistently advanced across the board to be recognized as a top 10 undergraduate business school. Over the years, Dean Choi built a core of dedicated faculty who are devoted to the mission of undergraduate teaching and who have revitalized that curriculum into one which is both a model throughout the University and among NYU Stern's peer schools. Additionally, he broadened the scope of undergraduate business education by recognizing the importance of its international dimensions and by bringing that global perspective into the classroom - further enhancing the undergraduate experience and raising the profile of the School worldwide.

"Dean Choi's great warmth, humanity and generosity of spirit have brought a spirit of camaraderie and community to the undergraduate experience at Stern, making a whole generation of Stern School graduates proud to be a part of this institution," noted Dean Cooley.

After a brief sabbatical, Dean Choi plans to return to his first love, teaching. In addition, he will lend his experience with undergraduate education to advising the Provost's office on initiatives in that area across the University. He has agreed to remain in the role of Dean of the Undergraduate College through a transition period while a search is being conducted for his successor, and will then return full time to the faculty. He will remain a full and vibrant member of our Stern School community.

Dean Choi will be honored at a special occasion in the fall of 2003.
