Berkley Center Competition
Enters Final Phase

On April 25, NYU Stern alumni are invited to attend the competition finals and awards ceremony of the Maximum Exposure Business Plan Competition, hosted by the Berkley Center for Entrepreneurial Studies. The competition finals will feature 16 alumni- and student-based teams who are competing for a $50,000 cash award.

The competition will begin with the morning rounds, during which all 16 teams will present their new venture business concept. Judges, including alumni and members of the NYU Stern Board of Overseers, will select three finalist teams out of these 16. The three finalists make their presentations in the afternoon which will be followed by a reception and awards ceremony.

Competition Background
Twenty five alumni attended the competition kickoff meeting in October 2002. The kickoff was followed in November by the Reality Check Workshop, which provided insight into the criteria that judges have used when voting on previous winners and offered a framework for developing a business concept. In January, 65 teams submitted their executive summaries.
Through a rigorous screening process, 16 semi-finalist teams were selected to compete in the final round of the competition.

On March 30, a mandatory one-day retreat known as the Entrepreneurial Boot Camp will prepare finalists for the competition by helping them to enhance the quality of their business plans and presentation skills.

The Berkley Center for Entrepreneurial Studies provides an umbrella for NYU Stern's entrepreneurship and innovation program and is dedicated to conducting and supporting entrepreneurship research and education. The cash award is made available through a generous grant from Ira Leon Rennert, MBA '56, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Renco Group Inc. and member of NYU Stern's Board of Overseers.
