A Message from Ashok Sani, Chair of NYU Stern Alumni Advisory Council

Dear Fellow Alumnus/a:

As we move forward this spring, the Office of Alumni Affairs is offering a number of new programs and services designed to strengthen the alumni network. With overwhelming turnout at recent events and increasing numbers of alumni looking for ways to reconnect with the School and with each other, the Alumni Advisory Council is calling on all alumni to get involved in the Stern community.

The Career Resource Seminar Series has succeeded in drawing hundreds of alumni to each of its first three events. The series provides alumni involved in a job search or career transition with practical information on such topics as networking, developing your individual marketing plan and effective interviewing. These events are followed by a reception, which provides attendees with the opportunity to network with fellow alumni.

The Career Development Task Force, chaired by Christine Schneider, MBA '94, assisted with creating this program and is moving ahead with plans to create a new volunteer networking partner program. This program will pair alumni volunteers with fellow graduates seeking their next job or career change. These volunteer networking partners will be available to provide insight on their companies, job functions, industries or region. They may also be able to provide names of other individuals to expand an alumnus/a's networking capability.

The Networking Task Force, chaired by Susan Jurevics, MBA '96, is working to increase educational networking opportunities for alumni through the development of panel discussions focused on several specific industry segments, including entertainment, media and technology, investment management and entrepreneurship.

In addition, the Regional Development Task Force, chaired by Carl Greene, MBA '60, has begun a fact-finding mission to identify active alumni groups operating around the U.S. and abroad and to connect them with the School. This initial fact-finding mission is part of a larger, ongoing Council initiative to promote the Stern worldwide alumni network.

It is important to remember that the success of these programs and the strength of our network are only as good as your commitment to participate. Whether it is through logging on to SWAP, attending programs or volunteering to be a networking partner, we invite you to remain an active member of the Stern community. If you are interested in participating in our regional survey, volunteering or speaking with someone about ways to get involved, please contact the Office of Alumni Affairs at alumni@stern.nyu.edu or call (212) 998-4040.

I look forward to working with many of you as we continue to build the Stern network.

Best regards,

Ashok Sani, BS '74
