Social Venture Fund Practicum

  • Students are responsible for managing all aspects of the Fund, which is the first of its kind at a U.S. business school
  • Taught by Matthew Klein, Executive Director of the Blue Ridge Foundation, which supports start-up nonprofits
  • Recently, the Fund distributed $28,000 to two organizations that provide leadership opportunities to young people: the United Community Centers' East New York Farms Youth Internship program and the Center for Court Innovation's Youth Expanding Community Horizons by Organizing program

Stern Board Fellows

  • Students are matched with boards of prominent nonprofit organizations and serve as non-voting board members for one academic year
  • Complete a board-level strategic project in support of the organization’s mission and gain an in-depth understanding of the role of business leaders on nonprofit boards
  • Receive upfront training and ongoing support through sessions with experts from the nonprofit and NYU communities

Stern Consulting Corps

  • Apply MBA skills to the needs of New York City nonprofits with the aid of alumni mentors from top consulting firms, like Booz & Company and Deloitte
  • Gain valuable consulting experience that is transferable to future careers, while developing a sense of social consciousness
  • Current clients include Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation, Coalition for the Homeless, Lower East Side Business Improvement District, Pro Mujer, William J. Clinton Foundation Economic Opportunity Initiative

NYU Stern Annual Social Venture Competition

  • Sponsored by the Berkley Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, the Social Venture track is part of the annual Business Plan Competition
  • Track was developed in 2003 for Stern students and alumni interested in using their entrepreneurial skills to create innovative approaches to tackling social problems
  • Winners receive the $100,000 Stewart Satter Family Prize. See past winners of the Social Venture Competition
