JD/MBA (School of Law) This exciting dual degree program offers insight into the business and legal sides of corporate America. This program takes four years to complete. Five years is normally required when each degree is pursued independently. The first two years of the program are spent at NYU's School of Law, the third year is spent at the Stern School of Business and the fourth year is divided between the two schools.
Admission to the JD/MBA program Those interested in entering the JD/MBA program will complete one application process. Each school will evaluate the application, and the student qualifies for the dual degree program upon admission to both schools. Find out more about the JD/MBA application process.
Students typically begin at the School of Law, and enrollment at Stern is deferred for two years. Students must be enrolled in both programs before starting their MBA, and students at the School of Law may apply to Stern up until their third semester.
Individuals who already hold one of the individual degrees are not eligible for admission to the dual degree program.
Academic Requirements The JD/MBA dual degree is a total of 122 credits. Students are required to complete 51 credits at the Stern School of Business and 71 credits at the NYU School of Law making it possible to complete the degree requirements for both degrees in four years on a full-time basis instead of the five years typically required to complete both degrees individually. To view a sample schedule, visit the Academic Affairs website.
Course Registration JD/MBA students will register with either the School of Law or Stern depending on where they are taking the most credits. Students are required to register through the School of Law for 5 semesters and Stern for 3 semesters.
Tuition & Financial Aid JD/MBA students pay full tuition at the school through which they are registered each semester. If a student exceeds the maximum number of credits and/or courses permitted per semester by the school in which they are registered, the tuition and fees for the additional credits must be paid to that school.
Merit scholarships are awarded based on the admissions application. Financial aid, including federal loans, private loans and scholarships, are awarded through the school at which a student is registered in a given semester. In addition, students may obtain Teaching Fellowship or Graduate Assistantship positions, which offer tuition remission at the school through which they are registered.

Career Services Students are encouraged to take advantage of all counseling and placement services at both the School of Law and Stern throughout their academic program. Career counselors are available to aid students in areas such as résumé preparation, interviewing techniques, networking and career option assessment. Dual degree students should become familiar early in the academic program with career services offered at each respective school.
The Office of Career Services (OCS) at the School of Law begins working with students in November of their first year. Typically, JD/MBA students will explore traditional legal careers during their first and second summers, and then pursue business opportunities in their third summer. JD/MBA students have access to the OCS throughout their course of study.
The Office of Career Development (OCD) at Stern can help JD/MBA students pursue an internship and full-time employment in business. JD/MBA students who complete the Career Development Program (CDP) during their first year of the MBA program will be eligible to participate in the summer internship recruiting process. The CDP consists of required and optional workshops, panel discussions, mini-courses, a Q&A session, mock interviews, résumé critiques and functionally-specific strategy groups. JD/MBA students are eligible to participate in the full-time recruiting process in their second year of the MBA program after completing all OCD requirements. Dual degree students have access to Stern's Career Resource Center before matriculating at Stern.
