A Day in the Life

8:30 a.m. I wake up early (relatively speaking) this morning. Since I don't start classes until 1:30 p.m. every day, getting up at 8:30 a.m. seems a bit unnecessary, but I have loads of work to do this week.
8:45 a.m. I get up and begin checking emails. My study group for our Craft and Commerce of Cinema: The Cannes Film Festival class has a big paper due on Friday, and we've been emailing each other revised versions of the paper with our individual updates for the past couple of days. This is the first time I've worked with this particular group of students, and this paper is the first of several that we have to submit before leaving for the Film Festival. I'm hoping everything goes smoothly - so far, so good!
9:30 a.m. I check the weather to see just how cold it will be today. Being from San Francisco, I'm still not used to the cold. All in all, I guess it's not that bad. I start getting ready to head to school so that I can meet with my Managing Organizations study group.
11:00 a.m. I live in the Palladium (an on-campus residence hall located at Union Square), so the commute to school is fairly short - about 12 minutes, give or take. I start walking south towards school and stop by one of the other residence halls along the way to grab a bite to eat. One of the dorms closest to school has the only Chick-fil-A restaurant in Manhattan (or so I've heard), and I'm craving it!
12:00 p.m. I meet up with my Managing Organizations study group so that we can review the assigned cases for this week. We've been meeting like this for most of the semester to practice analyzing cases and better prepare ourselves for class as well as for the final. The five of us have found that we not only get along well socially, but also as a team when it comes to completing assignments - which has been a blessing! As a matter of fact, the case write-up that we had to turn in was chosen by the professor as one of the best two in our class, so as a group we feel like we've really gelled.
1:30 p.m. Managing Organizations is a three-hour class that meets once per week, and it is the only class that I have on Wednesdays. The class is about the same size as a block class (roughly 60 students), which makes it just small enough to foster class discussion. In this class we read cases about issues that arise in the workplace, particularly from a leadership perspective. It is really good to hear my classmates talk about experiences they've had in their previous jobs and analyze different ways issues can be resolved.
4:20 p.m. Class is over, and I head to a study space to continue working on the Craft and Commerce of Cinema paper. When I check my email, I see that at least three new updates have been made to the paper by my group-mates, and I read the most recent version to provide my feedback. The paper is due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, and I am hoping that we won't still be working on it up until the last minute. I try to avoid the last-minute hustle to turn in assignments as much as possible, but when you're working with a group it is sometimes unavoidable.
6:08 p.m. As I am walking back to the Palladium, my friend sends me a text message to let me know that she got an interview from one of the top companies on her recruiting list! I am so excited for her, so I call her back to congratulate her.
6:22 p.m. It's been a long day and though I don't have any groceries at home, I don't feel like stopping by the store. I head over to the nearby pizza place instead. After grabbing a slice, I finally arrive back to my room.
7:00 p.m. I have Professor Silber's Finance class tomorrow, so I look over the assigned reading. Professor Silber insists that each student in the class speak at least once (he's keeping track), and I have yet to speak - so I need to come up with something to say, and soon! Maybe tomorrow will be the day...
8:30 p.m. I spend the rest of the evening checking emails and preparing for the next day's classes. Thursday is the last day of classes for the week at Stern, and I look forward to having the weekend to catch up on all of my assignments.
